The concept is about making a painting a day as part of the daily practice of focusing in on the day-to-day ritual of painting and living. My hope is that by tracking the passing of the ships, both in and out of the harbour, I will use that as the basis of chronicling and marking the passing of time. Focus is of the utmost importance along with the collecting and proper documentation of coming and goings.
One important aspect of note is that the paintings themselves, at this point, are not actually produced in one day. Generally I am keeping a log of photos that I take from my partner Victoria's home and boathouse (which serves as my studio and is depicted above - along with Victoria) and then am matching them up with the daily log that I receive from the Halifax Port Authority. These paintings take about a week to complete and are painted in various stages. The date that the shipped passed by my eyes is always chronicled within the paintings title and blog post. As well, I am occasionally using written words as the background of my images.
I am also pleased to be selling paintings. The reality is that as a full time visual artist who shows work across Canada, I produce large works that eventually end up in galleries. The other reality is that it is small images like the ones that you see here that sustain my career in the arts. They are sold on a first come basis by either phone or email.
